The crime branch police raided a private firm on Cunningham Road and arrested four persons for allegedly cheating several people.

The arrested men, Devaprakash, 22, Balachandar T, 23, and Prashanth K, 31, allegedly cheated more than 100 people by collecting money from them on the promise of sending them on foreign tours. The identity of the fourth person was not revealed.

The accused persons floated a firm, Smartrip, and offered foreign trips through chain link system. People were invited to join them as members by paying Rs10,000, and were further asked to canvass at least two more people as members. Those who brought two new members were offered a trip to Thailand, which did not materialise.

Police said they had seized Rs1.46 lakh from Smartrip, besides confiscating office documents and five mobile phones.

 “It is not known how much money they had collected from people,” joint commissioner of police (crime) Alok Kumar said.

Police said three others, Mahesh Loganathan, Santosh Sumo and Suresh Kumar Gouri Shetty, escaped arrest.
