Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has been awarded the BS 25999-2:2007 certification for its business continuity management systems (BCMS) by the British Standard Institution (BSI), making it the second airport in the world to get this certification. UK’s Glasgow airport is the only other airport that has bagged this certification.
BCMS is a management process that assesses plans and strengthens the resilience of an organisation’s value chain.
It enables companies to identify threats and provides a framework for them to build up capabilities for an effective response in case of an emergency.
The certification was awarded after BIAL followed a 10-month-long stringent process, beginning in January 2011.
The certification recognises that BIAL’s BCMS has met the stringent standards required for certification.
BIAL’s entire BCMS went through repeated internal auditing and regressive audits by third parties—KPMG and BSI—to ensure that its BCMS is adhering to global standard.
Extensive risk assessments, impact analyses and recovery planning of processes were taken up.
“Being the first international airport in Asia-Pacific and second in the world to have attained BCMS certification speaks about BIAL’s intention of providing best-in-class services to passengers,” said Venkataram Arabolu, MD, BSI Group India.
