Five accused in the Bangalore serial blasts case were produced before the 1st additional chief metropolitan magistrate on Friday, a day after PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani was brought to the jam-packed court hall. The five included the main accused Thadiyandavide Naseer.

After his arrest on August 17 at Kollam in Kerala, Madani was made to confront other accused who had claimed that the PDP leader knew all the aspects of the blasts that shook the city.

Sources in the investigating team said that the five accused, who had said they carried out the blast on the instructions by Madani, were brought face-to-face with him earlier during interrogation.

However, Madani claimed innocence and refused to identify or converse with the accused brought before him.

The officers refused to divulge the details of statements made by Madani before the police. They said bringing the six together was very useful for the investigation.

The five accused — Thadiyandavide Naseer, Abdul Sattar, Sarfaraz Nawaz, Abdul Jabbar and Badaruddin — were remanded to judicial custody.

Madani was taken to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Hospital for medical check-up after he complained that he was not attended well by the city police. After undergoing a number of tests at the government-run hospital, Madani’s ECO and ECG levels were found to be normal.

Cardiologist, BC Srinivas, who attended to Madani, said that the PDP leader has been referred to a multi-specialty hospital for further check-up.

Madani’s counsel P Usman had told the court the doctors attending him were “not qualified enough to attend to the kind of medical problems he had” and sought the services of a cardiologist from the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology and an orthopaedician.

Madani’s counsel filed a bail petition at the 5th fast track court on Thursday. The plea was posted on Friday. However, the public prosecutor sought three days’ time to file the objections.
