22.5K take PGET; man held for ‘hi-tech’ spying

Notwithstanding the security measures taken by Rajiv Gandhi University for Health Sciences (RGUHS) for the post-graduate entrance test (PGET) for entry into medical and dental courses, a candidate from Hyderabad attended the exam with a spy pen-camera and a hearing aid at the Jain College centre in Bangalore on Sunday.

He was caught when he was trying to scan a copy of the question paper, and send it across to his friend in Hyderabad. The candidate had allegedly planned to take down the answers with the hearing aid.

This year, live web streaming of the exam centres was introduced and it helped detect the malpractice.
“Through web-streaming, we saw an invigilator questioning a candidate. We immediately alerted the police,” said NS Ashok Kumar, registrar (evaluation), RGUHS.

“Elaborate arrangements were made with regard to application processing as well as manpower and examination centre management,” said Dr KS Sriprakash, vice-chancellor, RGUHS.
Following last year’s fiasco where students were caught for mass copying at places like Bellary, the test was conducted only in Bangalore at eight centres.

The test saw 90% attendance. A total of 11, 281 students appeared for the exam, with 9,110 candidates appearing for the medical test and 2,171 appearing for the dental test.
