Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said there would be a “blood bath” in the country if Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi becomes prime minister.

Speaking at a function organised to celebrate the 96th birth anniversary of late Indira Gandhi, Siddaramaiah said: “He was responsible for killing of pregnant Muslim woman during the Godhra riots. The people of this country should not allow Modi to become prime minister. There will be blood bath if he becomes prime minister,’’ Siddaramaiah said.

Appealing to the people to give the UPA government one more chance at the Centre, the chief minister expressed his confidence that the UPA would win the Lok Sabha polls and come back to the power again.

“Congress has proved its strength by winning majority of the assembly seats,’’ the chief minister said.

He called upon the people to defeat communal forces that have been flourishing in the name of religion and caste. He also came down heavily on Modi for claiming credit for the IT revolution in the country.

“Modi is busy criticising the Nehru family. He even attributes the IT revolution in the country to NDA rule. He doesn’t know the history. He is attempting to distort facts. It is Rajiv Gandhi who was instrumental in the IT revolution,’’ he said.

He predicted that there will be no Modi impact on voters in the state, recalling how Congress won seven of eight assembly seats in the district of Mangalore.

Further, stating that Modi has no right to talk about corruption, he said it was the BJP which was the most corrupt. “Its leaders were sent to jail for corruption. Modi should have looked at faces of Jagadish Shettar, Sadananda Gowda and Eswharappa while addressing the public meeting at Bangalore Palace Grounds on Sunday. Eshwarappa was known for having a currency note counting machine at his residence. What moral right do these leaders have to talk about corruption?’’ he asked.
