Condemning the rape on a first standard student, various student and women organisations staged a protest in front of the Vibgyor High School in Whitefield where the incident took place. Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Commission for Women (KSCW) has taken up a suo motto case in connection with the incident.

The protests which started on Wednesday continued even on Friday. ABVP, Janavadi women organisation, Student Federation of India (SFI) and other organisations jumped into protests on Friday. They took out a rally from Vartur police station till the school. The agitators expressed their anger against the police for the delay in arresting the culprits.

Further, they demanded that even the board members of the school, who tried to hush up the incident, should also be arrested. Meanwhile, there was a heated argument between the police and the protesters when they tried to barge inside the school by pushing the barricades aside. Senior officers intervened and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the protesters alleged that though the incident was reported about 14 days ago, the school management did not inform the police about the matter and tried to hush up the matter. Thus, criminal cases should be booked against the board members and they should also be arrested, they urged. They also demanded the arrest of the culprits soon and fast track courts should be set up for the speedy trial of rape cases.

In the evening, a candle light vigil was also held in front of the school. Meanwhile, the parents of the students studying in the school said that they had given a list of 40 demands to the management about the safety of the students and the management would hold a meeting on July 22 in this connection. The parents have decided to not send their children to the school till their demands are met.

KSCW member visits school: Meanwhile, KSCW member Suman Hegde visited the school and enquired the school staff about the incident. "I spoke to three management personnel of the school and have collected information about the incident. They told that the gym instructor was on leave on the day the incident took place. Also, Basavaraj, an admin manager, said that the victim was mentally retarded. He said that nine mentally unsound students are studying in the school. This has to be verified," she said.

Later, she also visited the house of the victim and met her parents.
