A man, who allegedly tried to abuse his daughter, was arrested and released on Tuesday evening here. Explaining the incident, Shabbeer, the brother of the victim told DNA that his father Mukuba Killedar, 48, had been abusing the girl for almost a year now.

“He used to force her to watch blue films with him in the afternoons and evenings and when my mother or I opposed, he would threaten us with dire consequences too. On many occasions he would sit naked in the house and force her to serve him food,” said Shabbeer.

Mukuba’s wife Saira also told DNA that her husband was involved in the trafficking of women when he was working in Goa, 2-3 years ago. “He would often express his desires to my daughter using obscene gestures and language and if we said anything to make him stop, he would threaten to sell my daughter and me to his friends in Goa and Gujarat,” Saira added.

The victim, Saira’s daughter also confirmed the allegations. “He started such acts a year or so ago and would often tell me to cooperate with his friends, rowdies by nature. He himself attempted to rape me quite a few times during this last year. If he was drunk, he used to physically abuse both me and my mother,” she stated.

She further said that the police often denied to accept her complaints and suggested that she stay in a mosque or at a relative’s house. “When he came to know that we approached the police with a complaint, he sent us out of the house and we have been homeless since February 17,” she added.

Police Commissioner BA Padmanayan told DNA that Mukuba’s family had approached him seeking his assistance in providing them with a share of Mukuba’s property. “I told them to use the proper court for such issues as matters relating to property were not under our jurisdiction,” he explained.

Denying the Commissioner’s version, however, Shabbeer told us that the police did not even allow for the three of them to explain the situation. “As we speak broken Kannada, they ignored our problem and sent us out of the station, suggesting some useless solutions,” he said. The accused Mukuba denied to receive any calls made to him by this reporter.
