Though 2,726 tenders were floated to undertake ward-wise civic projects under the single-window system in the city, contractors participated in the tendering process for only half of them.

This information was given by the chairman of the standing committee for ward-level work of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), AH Basavaraju.

“We floated tenders twice for (the remaining) 1,359 projects, but no one came forward. If no one responds to our third call for tenders, we will assign the work to the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL),” said Basavaraju.

He also made it mandatory for government offices to display signboards containing information on what the office does, who is in-charge of it, what are his or her responsibilities etc.

“I have issued a direction to all the offices right from the assistant engineer to the joint commissioner to display boards showing their names, designation and the jobs assigned to them,” he said.

He added that the BBMP commissioner too has written a letter to the Bangalore Development Authority, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company, police, fire and emergency services to put up display containing the aforesaid information.

He also instructed all the officers to put up a portrait of Sir M Visvesvaraya in their offices along with that of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar.
