The construction of the new building, Isolation Hospital, was taken up by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), in 2012 but due to some problems the building hasn't been thrown open yet.
The new building at the Epidemic Diseases Hospital is likely to be thrown open for functioning by the end of this month. The inauguration of this new building at the state government-run Epidemic Diseases Hospital has been already stalled for over a year now. The construction of the new building, Isolation Hospital, was taken up by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), in 2012 but due to some problems the building hasn't been thrown open yet.
The shifting of the staff and patients to the newly-constructed building in the same complex has become necessary as the 80-year-old Epidemic Diseases Hospital is in a dilapidated condition from a long time. However, despite the completion of the project in 2013, the staff continues to function from the old building only, as the contractor has failed to provide water supply in the new block.
When iamin contacted Dr Ansar Ahmed, medical superintendent, Epidemic Diseases Hospital, he informed that he is aware of the dilapidated condition of the old building and has sent many reminders also to the State Health System Development Project engineers, who were assigned to handle the construction work of the new block. Ahmed added that the staff will be shifted to the new block as early as the issues are sorted out.
Meanwhile, AN Somaraju, assistant executive engineer, State Health System Development Project, said that pending work at the new block will be completed shortly and hopefully the work will be finished within a month. The Epidemic Diseases Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in the city set up during the British regime. The hospital treats patients suffering from gastroenteritis and other related diseases.
