Callousness of civic authorities resulted in the death of an actor.

Ashok Kumar, 55, a small-time actor, was riding back home on a motorcycle after a shoot on Sunday morning. He fell into a 10-foot-deep ditch dug up the BWSSB near Kohinoor ground in Basavanagudi and died.

The ditch dug up by the BWSSB for laying sanitation pipelines had been left open in the night. Ashok is said to have not noticed it. He drove into the ditch and drowned.

Passers-by spotted a motorcycle and a body in the ditch early on Sunday morning and fished out the body.

Residents of the locality complained that pipe-laying work has been going for about four months and there are no proper barricades to warn passers-by. Blaming the BSWSB for their carelessness, the residents said only one metal barricade was kept on side of the ditch. Rest of the part was cordoned off with a ribbon.
