The city police have picked up several suspects from Tamil Nadu and Kerala in connection with the Malleswaram blast following information provided by three suspects who were arrested on Tuesday. Sources said several police teams have been formed based on the information gathered from the three arrested.

Over the last few days, Bangalore police teams have nabbed many suspects in the case, including four in Chennai. Two of them have been identified as Salim and Syed Sulaiman. The suspects are being interrogated at an undisclosed location. The Tamil Nadu police too, in association with the city police, on Tuesday arrested three persons — Peer Mohiddeen alias Peer, Basheer alias Sunnathi Basheer, and Kichan Buhari. All three hail from Melapalyam in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.

The accused were produced before the 8th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court on Tuesday night, and remanded in 14-day police custody. “We have to collect information about the blast, the motive itself, and the people who were behind the incident. So, we want their custody for further investigation. The court has considered our request,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, home minister R Ashoka said the police are hunting for Anwar Basha, founder of the Al Umma group, in Tamil Nadu. Ashoka said investigations revealed that Basha was the main accused in the Malleswaram blast case.

All the accused are said to be associated with the Al Umma outfit. Basha stayed in Bangalore for more than a year and was also involved in the Coimbatore blast targeted at senior BJP leader LK Advani. Investigations indicated the possible involvement of foreign countries in the case.

City police commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report on the possible explosives used in the Malleswaram blast has been delayed.
