At an event in the city on Monday, governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj said the mining lobby is so powerful that it once tried to dislodge him from the Raj Bhavan.

He was speaking at the 10th Charkha Awards distribution ceremony, organised by Communication for Development Learning to recognise the work of journalists specialising in development journalism at Raj Bhavan.

The governor also spoke about the issues that needed immediate attention of the state. He said the most important of them was water management and river pollution. He expressed relief that it rained well in the city this year.

Former additional chief secretary to the Karnataka Government, Chiranjiv Singh who also attended the awards ceremony, said:  “Development journalism is tricky because it can be used a tool for social justice, but it can also become a tool for propaganda and journalists need to find the line between the two.”
