A 45-year-old man murdered a 19-year-old youth, who had eloped with his daughter, and brought the body to the K R Puram police station and surrendered to the police.
The deceased has been identified as Sadiq, who was residing in a slum near Hombegowdanagar near Siddapura. He was working as welder. The accused, Riyaz Khan, is a resident of Masjid Road near Devasandra in K R Puram and a driver of goods vehicle.
According to the police, Khan was earlier residing with his family in Siddapura and his 14 year old daughter was studying in 7th standard in a government school. The deceased Sadiq's brother was her classmate and Sadiq came in contact with the girl through his brother, and the duo fell in love with each other. They had also decided to get married.
However, Khan, who learnt about his daughter's love story, had gone to Sadiq's house and had warned him and his parents to stay away from his daughter. Six months ago, he had also changed his house from Siddapura to Devasandra. But, Sadiq often went to Devasandra and met his girlfriend.
The duo eloped on Ramzan festival on July 29 and Khan filed a missing complaint with K R Puram police on August 2.
"Khan suspected that his daughter might have eloped with Sadiq. He went to Sadiq's house to enquire but he was told by Sadiq's family members that they do not know anything about them. Khan contacted Sadiq's friend Irfan, who told that the duo had eloped and he would arrange a meeting with them if Khan agrees for their marriage. Khan agreed for this and asked Irfan to ask the lovers to come to his sister's house in Hongadevanahalli near Bannerghatta," the police explained.
On Wednesday around 9 pm, there was a meeting at Khan's sister's house. During this, Khan had a fight with Sadiq and others had intervened and pacified them, saying they could discuss issues in the morning. When the meeting started again on Thursday at 5.45 am, Khan said that he wanted to talk to Sadiq personally. He took Sadiq inside the room, where he attacked him with machete and murdered him by hitting in his neck, the police said.
He also attacked Sadiq's friend who went inside the room after hearing Sadiq scream. He availed treatment at a hospital and was discharged. "Later, he put Sadiq's body inside a gunny bag and carried it in his Honda Activa and went to K R Pura police station by 10.30 am. He directly went inside the station and told the cops that he had murdered Sadiq, who had kidnapped his daughter, and his body was on the scooter. The cops, who were astonished for a while, took Khan into custody and informed the Bannerghatta police as the incident had took place in their jurisdiction," the police said.
"During interrogation, Khan said that he was humiliated as his girl eloped with Sadiq on Ramzan day. And, he also said that this incident should be a lesson for those who elope," the police added. Further investigations are on.
