Dense fog over the Bangalore skies resulted in the delay of 31 flights at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA), causing hardship to passengers. Airport officials said that as many as 31 flights were delayed due to the fog, which lasted from 4.30 am to 9.30 am. Officials said that 19 departing and 12 arriving flights were delayed.

According to flightstats.com, an online portal that tracks flight movement, a Lufthansa flight bound to Frankfurt and scheduled to depart at 3.45 am departed only at 4.18 am. Similarly, a Jet Airways flight from Chennai scheduled to land at 6.50 am landed 276 minutes late.The delay disrupted the travel schedules of several passengers.

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher who was in the city to attend the Bangalore Literature Festival, was among those who were stranded at the airport.

The actor tweeted “Was in aircraft for 7hrs for Bangalore-Jaipur flight. Thanks to d fog. By d time we landed everyone knew each other’s ancestral families.”

The fog also led to diversion of 13 flights of which three were international. A flight in which CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat was travelling was among the flights that were diverted to Chennai. She was to attend an event in the city.
