Former history-sheeters are busy trying to get tickets from political parties for contesting the forthcoming election to the state assembly.

Among the prominent ticket aspirants is Jedarahalli Krishnappa, better known as 'JK', who recently received an 'honorary doctorate from Einstein International University at Florida in the US'.

Krishnappa is leaving no stone unturned to get Congress party ticket for contesting from Magadi constituency. Projecting himself as a social worker, he even produced a Kannada movie Jedarahalli in which he acted. These days, he is frequently seen at the residences of Congress leaders, especially Rajya sabha member Prema Cariappa whom he calls ‘Amma’.

Former rowdy Altaf Hussain, husband of BBMP JJ Nagar ward corporator Seema Khanum, is an aspirant for Chamarajpet constituency.

He told DNA that he was "born and brought up in the area" and was engaged in social service. “I am confident of getting the Congress ticket. Member of Parliament BK Hariprasad is my mentor,” he said. He said in case he did not get the Congress ticket, he would not contest at all.

Sources said Nagaraj, alias Bomb Naga, who lost the BBMP election from Prakash Nagar ward (98) as an independent, is lobbying the BSR Congress party for a nomination from the Gandhinagar constituency.

Likewise notorious history-sheeter Sheikh Mohammed Asgar alias Mahim, who is allegedly involved in the murder of Banashankari temple ward corporator Diwana Ali alias Mohammed Ali and has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB), is hoping contest from Jayanagar constituency on a JD(S) ticket. Mahim produced a Kannada movie Nanda starring Shivarajkumar, in which he too acted. He grew close to JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy by supporting BZ Zameer Ahmad Khan who defeated Congress leader RV Devaraj from Chamarajpet in 2005.

Chamarajpet ward corporator BV Ganesh, who is aspiring to contest from the BJP from Chamarajpet, said that it didn't matter if former history-sheeters contested election, as long as they do not make it a business investment which pays for five years.

“Those who have served the public should contest. The elected representative should be available to resolve the public's problem. Citizens should not fear approaching their MLA. Voters also have responsibility to choose the right person. If they choose bad elements, they have to suffer for five years,” he said.
