A collaboration between the healthcare and technology, provided in a unified platform would be the best way to bring about an improvement in the access and quality of healthcare. Keeping this in view, NATHealth, a Healthcare Federation in India formed in the lines of NASSCOM was founded two years ago. As part of their regular meeting, one of which was held in Bangalore at Columbia Asia Hospitals, Yeshwantpur on Friday, Anjan Bose, Secretary General of NATHealth stated that Bangalore is one among several the top list for a prospective market for healthcare.

Bangalore being the IT hub, which has the headquarters of almost all the IT companies associated with NASSCOM, has been slated in top priority for setting up healthcare laboratories. Anjan said: "Bangalore has been in a top place along with the capital city Delhi. The NATHealth is very much involved with Bangalore. Infact, when we formed NATHealth about two years ago, we had first extended our cooperation to Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association, Karnataka. IT in healthcare has been a growing boon."

Further clarifying on the need for collaboration of IT and healthcare services, Anjan further pointed: "As we explore options of collaborating IT and healthcare, we are selecting a few priority areas. Availability of data and its management, mobile healthcare, cloud based sharing, accessibility and working with coordination with the government. Cost of patient care will be reduced drastically if local innovation comes to us. Fifteen years ago, about 80% of the medical devices were being imported from abroad and this has remained the same even today. We need to go for cost effective innovations. NATHealth is optimistic and in the coming future we hope to reduce the percentage of imports on medical devices."

Meanwhile, NATHealth is also having discussions on coming up with the guidelines for manufacturing medical devices, which would be cost-effective as well as employment generative. This would also lead to a reduction in the cost of treatment for all patients, Anjan said.
