Former chief minister and Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) leader BS Yeddyurappa launched a veiled attack on chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday. While congratulating Siddaramaiah for becoming the chief minister, Yeddyurappa also made a snide comment by advising the CM not to invest his time in criticising the opposition and finding faults with the previous government led by the BJP.

“The opposition’s responsibility is to criticise the government. I want you not to take up the opposition’s job and stop making allegations against the previous government for alleged financial mismanagement,’’ Yeddyurappa said.

“I trusted some people, who in turn backstabbed me. God will take care of such people. However, I want to make it clear that I am after any position or post since I had already served the people as their chief minister and the leader of opposition,” Yeddyurappa said.

Refuting rumours on the merger of KJP with either BJP or JD(S), Yeddyurappa said no talks were held in this regard. “There is no proposal for the merger of KJP with any political party. I am only trying for floor coordination. I want all the opposition parties to work in unity and make the ruling party more responsible,’’ he said.

Stating that he was confident of winning more than 25 seats in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the former chief minister said Siddaramaiah may remain as the chief minister for only six months.

“We are expected to win more than 25 Lok Sabha seats and the Congress is expected to sit in the opposition after the election. The Congress became the ruling party by polling 1.5% extra votes than the combined votes polled by opposition parties,’’ he added.

He also came down heavily on Siddaramaiah for stating that only the Congress party could make people from minorities and backward castes chief ministers and for describing Janata Dal(S) as a political party of father and children.

“Siddaramaiah attended a felicitation function organised by an educational institution maintained by minorities community on Tuesday. Siddaramaiah wanted to pamper minorities with an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls by issuing such statements,’’ he said.
