The BJP Elders’ Forum has decided to take the party head on over the issue of corruption. If the party gives tickets to those facing corruption charges in the next assembly elections, the elders’ forum will field candidates of its own to contest against the official BJP candidates.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, president of the forum, BB Shivappa said that those who are facing corruption charges should be kept out of assembly elections. “Let them come clean from the charges first. Otherwise, let the individuals to take their own call including the option of leaving the party,” he said, indirectly targeting former CM BS Yeddyurappa.

Another senior leader Anna Vinayachandra added that they will not hesitate to field a candidate in Shikaripur against the former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who is facing corruption charges.

“We are party loyalists. The party cannot be caste-oriented. The leaders should bring the party on the right track,” Shivappa said.

He dismissed the drought tour by the political leaders including BJP leaders as a show off ahead of the assembly elections.

He slammed the BJP saying that it had not taken any permanent measure to address the issue of drought. “If you go in 60 cars for a drought study tour, will it have any meaning?” he asked indirectly referring to Yeddyurappa’s tour.

When asked about will the party take them seriously as deputy chief minister KS Eshwarppa had already taunted him by asking who is Shivappa? He stated that if he can asked the same question.  “If the son tells that he does not know the father, how do we react?” he questioned.

Shivappa maintained that if HD Devegowda and HD Kumaraswamy had handed over the power to Yeddyurappa, the existing caste polarisation would not have taken place in the state. Since, there is no representation given to Lingayats, they are supporting BJP. It is not the support for Yeddyurappa, he said.
