Miffed at a pothole-punctuated road in Srirampura, mayor BS Satyanarayana gave an earful to a BBMP offer.

The mayor pulled up the BBMP’s assistant engineer, reprimanding him for the poor condition of 5th Main in Srirampura. The mayor, accompanied by the minister for food and civil supplies, Dinesh Gundu Rao, who represents Gandhinagar assembly segment, and local corrporator, Mallesh, visited a couple of places in the city on Friday.

At Srirampura, with an increasing number of residents complaining about the potholes, Satyanarayana took BBMP officer to task.

“How long will it take for you to fill up the potholes? Can you ensure filling up these potholes within a week?’’ the mayor was seen asking a BBMP engineer of the Subashnagar ward.

According to BBMP sources, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) engineers forgot to restore the road after laying the underground pipes.

“I want the engineer concerned to ensure filling up potholes, if not asphalting the road. If the engineer failed to fill up the potholes, I have to take stringent measures,’’ the mayor said.
After taking stock of roads, the inspection team visited an unmanned railway cross.

Concerned with the safety of thousands of people who have to use this level cross, the mayor directed the BBMP engineers to prepare the plan for the construction of a railway under bridge that will facilitate people from Swathanthrapalya and other areas to reach Sampige Road without any hassles.

“The BBMP will deposit Rs10 lakh with the South Western Railway authorities tomorrow itself. I want them to take the work on a priority basis,’’ the mayor said.

The residents also demanded the mayor to speed up the construction of a link road to ease out traffic on Sampige Road.

“The link road will enable motorists to reach Majestic and other areas within a few minutes and also avoid traffic jams on Sampige Road,’’ the mayor said.

Corporator avoids minister
The mayor’s visit to the area once again brought out the differences between corporator T Mallesh and Dinesh Gundu Rao. Though Mallesh joined the BBMP team later and received the mayor, he did not shake hand with Rao, who was present on the spot. After a few minutes, Rao left the place with his supporters. Mallesh insisted that the mayor visited other places in his ward and arranged felicitation for him. Firther, Rao’s photo was not seen on the banners put up on the occasion of mayor’s visit.
