A sea of humanity descended at Palace Grounds to hear BJP’s PM-designate, Narendra Modi, speak. Despite the massive crowd—touted to be well above one lakh—the event began, was held and concluded with surprising smoothness.

The hassle-free organisation of such a massive rally won accolades from the impressed participants. Palace Grounds has been hosting conventions of other political parties. Such conventions/rallies/meetings invariably end up creating massive traffic gridlocks around the venue. There is choc-a-block rush at the entry and exit gates, with getting in and out of the venue turning out to be nothing less than a nightmare. And then there’s the usual suspect, littering.
Participants of most rallies drop empty water bottles, dona-pattals at and around the venue, reducing the place into a vituperative mess.

With such scenes becoming a norm, Narendra Modi’s Bharata Gellisi rally turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The motorists who use Maharshi Ramana Road were expecting a traffic jam around Palace Grounds and were planning to avoid it on Sunday afternoon and evening. But to their surprise, no traffic hassles bogged them. Also, they found the area around the venue relatively cleaner.

A large number of policemen were deployed for the rally. Traffic police had made elaborate arrangements for smooth movement of vehicles, diverting traffic to alternative routes. That the traffic advisory was issued two days in advance was cited as a reason behind smooth flow of vehicles. Initially, the policemen posted at the gate too strictly prohibited people from carrying water bottles to the venue.

The traffic police did not allow parking of buses (in which people from distant regions came for the Modi rally) on Ramana Maharshi Road. The meeting began and ended on time. Modi’s helicopter landed at the venue at noon and he took 10 minutes to reach the stage. The organisers made arrangements to distribute food to the participants after the rally. The entire event went by without any hassle.

The rally’s participants took to twitter to praise the arrangements. Tweeple went gaga over the arrangements and praised the organisers for making the event comfortable. Kiran Kumar S (using twitter handle @KiranKS) tweeted: “Very disciplined men and women. No alcohol, no cash anywhere.”
