The city police have nabbed three persons in connection with the ATM robbery case in Sanjaynagar. The three accused are Raghu, Mahesh and Sunil, all hailing from Hassan district. As suspected by the police earlier, the three robbers are associated with an agency which deposits money in ATMs across the city.

On Saturday evening, the three men had broken open an ATM by using gas cutters, and looted Rs 19 lakh. The police have recovered stolen money from the accused.

Of the arrested, the prime accused, Raghu works as a field officer in Check Mate security agency, which provides the service of depositing money in ATMs across the city. During interrogation, Raghu revealed that prior to the robbery, he would often visit the ATM, and in the bargain found out loopholes in security and the fact that cameras would often not function. He then approached the two and together they hatched the plan to rob the ATM.

The police have seized two cars from the accused, and instruments that were used to break open the machine. The police said Raghu had confessed about the robbery, and added that he had done this to repay a loan. “He (Raghu ) was earning just Rs9,000, but wanted to lead a lavish life. He had recently brought a car by borrowing money. Meanwhile, we are also investigating if they are habitual offenders. We have made the arrests within just three days,” a police official said.
