Auto Expo 2018 Day 1 highlights: Kia's Indian debut to major car launch, 10 things to know

Auto Expo 2018 has kick started in Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. While, February 7, 8 would be reserved for media. The 14th edition of  Asia's largest automobile event would be open for public from February 9-14.

Auto Expo 2018 would be bigger than Auto Expo 2016, with 24 car launches and around 100 vehicles that would be showcased. 

Below we have listed major highlights of day 1 of Auto expo 2018: 

1.  Next generation Honda Amaze unveiled

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has unveiled the next generation of the Honda Amaze at the Auto Expo 2018. This is the second generation of the model which made its global debut in India. The new Honda Amaze is also being developed at Honda's R&D base in Thailand but has also seen more inputs from the Honda India engineering team.

2. Maruti's Concept Future S

Leading automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki on Wednesday unveiled 'Concept Future S', at Auto Expo 2018. ConceptFutureS, with its unique aggressive stance and posture and bold, exciting interiors, is set to redefine the compact vehicle design in India.
Designed in-house by Maruti Suzuki, the car epitomizes the next level of design evolution in terms of proportions, body sculpting and stimulating fusion of bold patterns and superior accent colors.

3. Kia's Indian debut

South Korean automaker Kia Motors at the Auto Expo 2018 said it will introduce a range of vehicles, including an India-exclusive compact electric vehicle in the country between 2019 and 2021.

The company unveiled its SP Concept, an SUV designed and developed for the Indian market. It will be the first product to go on sale in the country in the second half of next year.

4. Renault showcases 2 EVs

French auto major Renault today showcased its electric concept cars TREZOR and ZOE e- Sport at the Auto Expo 2018 here and said it is awaiting a clear policy and roadmap on infrastructure for electric vehicles to take a long-term strategic decision.

5. Hyundai Motor India unveils all-new Elite i20 for Rs 5.34 Lakh

Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday unveiled the much-awaited facelift of 2018 Elite i20 premium hatchback at the Auto Expo 2018.
 
The i20 facelift is similar to the details and the images already leaked online. 

Priced at Rs 5.34 Lakh, the new Hyundai Elite i20 is among the handful of cars that Hyundai is showcasing at  Auto Expo, which also includes the all-new Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Ioniq crossover, as well as its Hyundai N performance cars.


6. Italian firm Piaggio launches Aprilia SR125 

Piaggio launched its new 125cc bike, Aprilia SR125, in the Indian market at a price of Rs 65,310 (ex-showroom Pune).

The company also showcased its Vespa scooter range, including Vespa GTS, Tuono 150, and e-scooter Elettrica at the Auto Expo 2018.

7. Hero MotoCorp unveils 200cc adventure motorcycle, 2 scooters

The country's largest two- wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp today unveiled 200cc adventure motorcycle, XPulse and two new 125cc scooters, which will hit the markets later this year.

With the XPulse, the company is strengthening its presence on the higher engine capacity motorcycle segment.

"We will continue to have enhanced focus this year on two rapidly growing segments - premium motorcycle and scooter.

Aligned with this strategy, we have showcased two new scooters and a dual purpose motorcycle here, which will be launched later this year," Hero MotoCorp Chairman, MD and CEO Pawan Munjal said here at the Auto Expo.

8. TVS Motor unveils 3 concept vehicles 

TVS Motor Company unveiled its electric scooter concept 'Creon' and a 220cc single-cylinder engine bike 'Zeppelin' at the Auto Expo 2018 here.

The company also showcased its ethanol-powered motorcycle, Apache RTR 200 Fi Ethanol, aimed at reducing carbon footprint on the environment.

9. Honda India unveils X-Blade motorcycle, 10 new models

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. unveiled its most extensive product line-up with 11 new models at the ongoing 14th Auto Expo 2018.  

Honda’s brand new 160cc motorcycle X-Blade was the star attraction at the launch event along with 10 exciting 2018 editions (6 domestic models and 4 global bikes).

Along with the brand new 160cc stylish motorcycle X-Blade, the company also unveiled:

6 new 2018 editions in the domestic line-up (new scooter edition -- Activa 5G)

New motorcycle edition (Livo, CB Shine, CB Shine SP, CB Hornet 160R, CBR250R)

4 new editions of Honda’s international big bikes -- CBR650F, Africa Twin, CBR1000RR & CBR1000RR SP, Gold Wing. 

10. Electric vehicles is the new favourite trend

Electric mobility seems to be the flavour of this year's auto expo with companies including Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors, Toyota, Hyundai, BMW and Mercedes Benz lining up showcases and launches as the country gear towards shift towards eco-friendly vehicles.

The move is also in line with the government's mission of having only electric vehicles being sold by 2030.
