Yoga Day today: Not all roads will lead to GMDC

The state government has arranged transportation for those coming to Ahmedabad to participate in the event

Cops review security arrangements at GMDC

Around 6,000 cops have been deployed to ensure a smooth celebration of the International Yoga Day, to be held at five grounds that are connected to the main GMDC ground, on Wednesday. 

There will be a nine-hour block (3am to 11am) starting in the wee hours on roads within a radius of four km from the venue. A total of nine routes have been blocked. The roads will be barricaded and traffic diverted to alternative routes. “The state government has taken necessary measures to strengthen security at all the venues across the state. There is no need to panic because of the security threat to yoga-day events or rathyatra,” said Pradipsinh Jadeja, MoS for Home. “The state government has arranged transportation for those coming to Ahmedabad to participate in the event,” said Vallabh Kakadia, MoS for Transport.

Congress slams govt

Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Nishit Vyas said the education department is only focusing on Yoga Day affecting teaching and studies.

AMC kids eye Guinness

Around 30,000 students of Class 7 and 8 studying in schools under AMC School Board will perform yoga at AES Ground, Navrangpura. Students of panchayat-run schools will also join them to set a Guinness World Record. Civic body would provide them commute facility as well as snacks for two times.

Celebrations at NID 

The National Institute of Design (NID) will celebrate International Yoga Day on Wednesday by organising a session of yoga for their faculty, students and the staff. Yoga instructor Tarjni Shah has been roped in to conduct yoga sessions with demonstration of this 6,000 year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice. NID Director Pradyumna Vyas will inaugurate the opening of the session at 5 pm.

Awareness lecture 

A lecture on ‘Yoga Meditation for Healthy and Happy Living’ was delivered by Dr Binny Sareen of Brahmakumaris for personnel of South Western Air Command headquarters and their families on the eve of International Yoga Day on Tuesday. The speaker explained to about 300 people how meditation can help us in becoming calm and lead a healthy life.
