State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia on Sunday questioned as to why chief minister Narendra Modi did not let BJP leader LK Advani become the prime ministerial candidate.
“Why did he not make way for Advani?” asked Modhwadia at a press conference held at the GPCC office in the city to counter Modi’s constant allegations that the iron man of India Sardar Patel did not get to be the PM of the country because of Jawaharlal Nehru.
Had he (Sardar) been alive today, people like Modi who calls themselves Chote Sardar, would not be roaming free. “We should not forget that Sardar got the RSS banned,” said Modhwadia.
He further alleged that the CM’s statement that the then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had not attended Sardar Patel’s funeral was a lie. It should be noted that in a recent interview, Modi had apparently made such statements saying that Nehru had not even bothered to attend Patel’s funeral.
Quoting from a book by Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson Rajmohan Gandhi titled Patel a Life, he said it makes a mention of Nehru and other leaders of the country crying inconsolably at Sardar’s funeral.
Modi likes to ask why Sardar was not made the PM, but what he forgets was in that era India had hundreds of good leaders. “Perhaps he should ask why Advani is not BJP’s PM candidate. Why were the Sanjay Joshi sex CDs circulated or why Keshubhai was thrown out of the BJP,” said Modhwadia.
He also said that despite BJP’s claim it never even bothered to have a photo of the Iron Man whenever any of its meetings was in progress. Modhwadia also pooh poohed the CM’s claim that he worked at a tea-stall at a railway station.
“The CM was not a tea-stall boy. He was in fact a contractor at the ST bus-stand and not a tea-stall boy as he would like us to believe,” said Modhwadia.
