Watch out: E-challans for traffic violations are back in Ahmedabad

Taking a vow to create error-free challans, the department has upgraded the system and installed more CCTV cameras all junctions.

The Ahmedabad traffic police department is about to kick start the next leg of the e-challan drive from April 15. The earlier phase ended last January. Taking a vow to create error-free challans, the department has upgraded the system and installed more CCTV cameras all junctions.

As per traffic police officers, 1,300 CCTV cameras have been installed at 87 major junctions of Ahmedabad. Besides, a grievance cell at the commissioner's office in Shahibaug has been formed to lodge complaints against e-challan offenders. The grievance cell will comprise an inspector-level police officer. it will be supervised by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)-level officer. Earlier, around 18000 e-challans have been discarded by the department.

However, after the department also faced technical issues.

Neerja Gotru, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, "Initially, we are going to concentrate on generating error-free challans to the public. Once it is sorted, we will look after the process of recovering the fine. We are not generating challans to get the fine amount. It is to create an awareness and discipline among the public," said Gotru. Personal Digital Assistant device will be given to the traffic cops through which they will collect details of vehicles and its owners. The device will also show how many times the commuter has violated the rules and their fines pending. The device will be given to each traffic cops on field, who will catch people who are found violating rules. The cops will be also detaining vehicles of the repeated offenders if anyone is caught during the checking.

19 lakh e-challans generated 

9.67 Crore is the fine collected through e-challan
