VHP ideologue Dharmendra Maharaj on Sunday refused to clearly state if he supported chief minister Narendra Modi’s candidature for the top job in the country or not. When questioned he simply said that it was too early to predict such things.

“Let us wait and see what happens,” said Dharmendraji, further adding “I would support anyone who is a patriot and Modi is a patriot,” Speaking on the sidelines of a function in Tulip School, Dharmendraji said, commenting on Modi’s statement in Haridwar that he worked for everyone and not just Hindus, that the important thing to be asked is if everyone would accept him (Modi) or not.

On Gujarat government’s move to seek death penalty for Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi, he said it was gross miscarriage of justice. “Whatever the government did, it did under the pressure of the Supreme Court,” he said, refusing to elaborate it further. “To call Mayaben and Babu Bajrangi communal and violent, was violation of law,” he asserted.

Dharmendraji said that these days Hindus were being insulted in their own country. On the issue of demolition of temples on roads and rising incidence of thefts in temples in Gujarat and Ahmedabad, he blamed the state government for it and said that even God commits mistakes. “Then it is obvious that some failings will happen on the part of humans as well,” he said.
