Students from upper caste families will start getting education loans at 4% interest rates from Gujarat government. The state government has decided to offer this loan in form of soft loans that the students will have to repay after getting the job.

The government will give the loans for foreign studies too. The deputy chief minister Nitin Patel who also is a finance minister cleared the proposals of Gujarat Bin Anamat Shaikshanik Ane Arthik Vikas Nigam(upper caste community educational and economic development corporation) on Thursday in a special meeting that held in Gandhinagar. The chairman of corporation BH Ghodasara said that most of the proposals were cleared by the deputy CM in the meeting.

Talking to DNA, Ghodasara said, "We have proposed to the government to give education loans to beneficiaries at lower interests. The loans will be kind of soft loans and will be given at 4% interest that the students will have to repay in lower installments only after they start earning after education. The loans will be available for foreign studies too."

"One more proposal we are thinking is to increase the cap of an annual income of family for the eligible beneficiaries. At present that level is Rs. 6 lakh but we will see if the same can be increased. The state government is very positive and deputy CM said that the government wanted to serve the beneficiaries of poor upper caste as much as possible. Proposals have to get the final nod from CM but there will be a formality only as there is a consensus on the issue," Ghodasara added.

The Gujarat government had formed the corporation before the state assembly elections on the demands from Hardik Patel led PAAS and other quota agitation groups. Recently, the government also allocated the fund of Rs. 506 crore to the corporation for the execution. The corporation is going to formulate more schemes to support the upper caste students for the education.

"The government has the scheme Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavlamban Yojana(MYSY) to support the bright upper caste students from poor families for higher education. The amount of the assistance under MYSY may not be at par with the total fees or expense in some cases and there, we will give them assistance to pay rest of the fees or expenses in form of soft loans," Ghodasara added further.
