The Gandhi yatra, a foot march launched by the union minister of state for road, transport and shipping, Mansukh Mandaviya, is going to conclude on Tuesday in the presence of CM Vijay Rupani at Lok Bharti Sanosara Institute of Bhavnagar. The Yatra began on January 16 with the motive to consolidate Gandhian values among citizens, moving through 50 villages falling on the 150 km route.

On the route of yatra, more than 10 lakh people from 150 villages participated in different events. The minister held 11 conventions associated with the 11 vows of Mahatma Gandhi and cultural events were also held.

Mandaviya, talking to DNA said, “I had decided to hold this yatra with the motive to revive the importance of fundamental education system that is believed to be the brain child of Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle. The yatra was not a political move but was the implementation of his thought to pay tribute to the Mahatma by reviving his concept of fundamental education.”

During this yatra, many religious leaders including Morari Bapu and politicians including union and state ministers were present to address the gathering on the mantra of moral values by Mahatma Gandhi.

“I do not assume or expect that this yatra will pitch for political weight gaining for me. I think people who participated got enlightened on the principles of the Mahatma and they will be surely inspired to walk on the path that Bapu showed us. This is enough to bring the change in society. I am satisfied with the outcome of my efforts to hold this yatra,” Mandaviya added.

The yatra was based on different themes of 11 principles that Bapu gave, namely truth, non-violence, non-stealing, temperance,  celibacy, self hard work, eradication of untouchability, fearlessness, Swadeshi, renunciation of greed and respect for all religions.
