A mathematics tutor allegedly molested a 15-year-old student in Sardarnagar on the pretext of helping her with her lessons. A formal complaint was filed with the local police station by the girl on Wednesday. The accused, who is 45 years old, has been arrested.
The accused, Gopal Chand Datta, runs private tuition classes called Datta classes in Sardarnagar. The incident took place at the coaching centre after the other students had left on Wednesday. The police said Datta had asked Rekha (name changed) to stay back after the classes because she needed to take more lessons, and he would help her with it. After everyone left, he started teaching her, but after a while he tried to grab her and kissed her. At this, a shocked Rekha started screaming for help, and that is when Datta backed off and the girl managed to get out of there and rush home.
On Wednesday, the girl, who studies in Class 11, narrated the incident to her parents, who then lodged a complaint against the accused. Acting on the basis of the complaint, the police sent a team to the tuition centre and arrested Datta. A case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been filed against him, and the police is investigating the matter.
"The girl got scared and did not say anything to her parents at first. Later, when her parents found that she was acting weird, they asked her about what had happened, and she broke down. We have nabbed the accused from the tuition centre, and further investigation in the matter is on," said Inspector HB Zala, Sardarnagar police station.
