Passengers flying out of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel International (SVPI) airport will now proceed to the security-check area through architectural marvel Teen Darwaza. To showcase the heritage of Ahmedabad, which has been accorded as a first world heritage city, airport officials have installed a replica of the iconic 600-year old Darwaza which is an epitome of the fine Islamic architecture. The replica of the Darwaza will be put up after the boarding counter at terminal 1 of departure bay.

Passengers will have to cross through the Darwaza to reach the security-check area. Nearly 22 craftsmen have worked on the design of the Darwaza.

Speaking about the initiative, Manoj Gangal, Airport Director said, "SVPI is the airport of first world heritage city of India where domestic passengers and international passengers transit to different destinations. What better place can we have to showcase the city's rich cultural heritage."

In the past few months, the airport has adorned a 3D visual of Adalaj stepwell that covers the arrival lounge with pillars on the baggage belt turned into stepwell pillars.

Sharing about the design, Bhavesh Jhala, head designer of the Teen Darwaza replica said, "The Darwaza is 35 feet in length, 15 feet in height and 4.5 feet in width. It took nearly 1.5 months to study the main Darwaza to replicate the same. We also had to keep in mind passenger comfort while passing through the Darwaza."

The designers have used multi-resin casting material to make the Darwaza. The colour of the Darwaza is that of stones found in Udaipur. The multi-resin material is non-breakable and more durable. "The craftsmen are from local Ahmedabad, Rajasthan and Bengal. Once it is installed, we will make more changes to get the exact look."
