Special session of Gujarat assembly likely on Jan 20

The Gujarat government has been preparing for the special session of the state assembly to meet for the first time after the recent polls. The session will be held on January 20 and that can be called for two days.

The business of the house is likely to include the appointment of the speaker, address of governor to house and oath taking of the MLAs. The Gujarat government had to delay the schedule of the session because of the Gujarat visit of PM Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu on January 17.

Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said, "We have sought the time of the governor for the session and his address. It is likely that the session will be held after January 17 but before January 25. This session will be called for two days." The governor OP Kohli has been approached by the government for the suitable dates. It is likely that the session can be called on January 18 and 19 or on January 23 and 24. On the other side, the Gujarat government has also started the preparations for the budget session. The budget session is going to start in the last week of February and that will be one and half months long session.

Patel said, "We have started the preparations for the budget session. We have been reviewing the performance of the departments in government. We are going to hold the budget special meeting for all the departments and concerned ministers and secretaries will remain present in the same. We would prepare the budget proposals after discussion in the meeting."

The CM Vijay Rupani and Dy CM Nitin Patel have been assessing the utilisation of budget grants for the current fiscal year by each of the departments. They are also analysing on the requirements of changes or reformation in current schemes of the government.
