The National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday alleged that the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) is minting money by arranging special exams for those who had backlogs for over ten years. The GTU, in a recent notification, announced that students who have backlogs will be given two more chances to appear for winter and summer special exams. However, the university stated that to appear for the exams and special extension, students will have to pay Rs 5,000.
Objecting to this decision, NSUI members staged a protest and gave a memorandum to GTU vice-chancellor Navin Sheth. The memorandum stated, “It is a good decision that the university is arranging special exams and allowing extension of a year to 24000 students who will be benefitted by the decision. However, Rs 5,000 as amount for the same is not right. The decision should be revoked within two days.”
