On the lines of premier institutes in the city, Gujarat University is all set to increase its security by raising the height of its boundary walls. As part of its expansion plan, security is on the university's priority, unlike the present situation, where anyone can walk on the university campus. The university is not only raising its walls but will also differentiate entry and exit points.

Speaking about the same, Dr Himanshu Pandya, Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat University said, "We will soon be having a botanical garden on our campus and we have realized over time that people who used to come for walks inside our campus would also damage plants. As our campus expands, security is a major concern for us, to avoid incidents happening on campus. Ensuring security of our students, the walls will be raised to a height of nearly 10 feet, similar to other premier institutes in the city."

Most gates of the university will be closed. The main gate of the university will be shifted towards the road that leads to the sports complex and would be called Ambedkar gate. The main gate of KS School of Management will only allow vehicles to enter whereas the gate near School of Linguistics, opposite Kanoria Arts centre, will be an exit gate.

"The idea to shift the main gate towards the sports complex area is that our student hostel and sports complex are located there. There will be a fountain coming up which will serve as a visual delight for visitors. Only students, staff and invited people will be able to enter our campus, others will need permission to enter."

A botanical garden is also a part of the university's expansion plans which would act as a research centre also for our students.

A third-year student of botany department requesting anonymity said that safety has been a concern on our campus as anyone at present can enter. But I do not know how will they be able to still manage security with so many gates. And if they don't allow vehicles inside, then we should be provided with cycles."
