The Rajkot crime branch on Wednesday arrested nine members of the 'oil gang' which used to steal valuables from cars. It was revealed during the investigation that all the accused nabbed in the case belong to the same family, and include three minors.

According to crime branch officers, in the past six months, there have been several cases registered with police stations across the state against one gang. One member of the gang used to approach random car drivers and tell them that there's an oil leak in their car. As soon as the driver got out of the car to check, other members used to steal valuables from the car.

Such cases were lodged in Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Mumbai and Anand city police stations. After committing the crime, the accused used to leave the city and target other victims.

After three cases were lodged with Rajkot police station, an investigation was started by the Rajkot crime branch team. They found out that the accused were last seen in Ahmedabad and were heading to Vadodara. A team reached Vadodara and the nine accused were nabbed, including three women and three minors.

While interrogating the accused, it was revealed that all of them belonged to the same family and were residents of Chennai. The minors were used to distract the car driver, while the others used to steal valuables from the car. It was also revealed that the accused used to target car drivers in areas where Angadia firm offices were usually located.

Although the accused have confessed to committing more than 10 crimes in different cities, officers suspect that there are more victims and are further investigating the matter.
