A day after a police sub-inspector, CM Kumbhani, was caught taking Rs1 crore bribe red-handed from Narayan Sai’s aide Uday Sangani, more details of the deal have emerged. Interrogation of Sangani has revealed that besides making the case weak, preventing the narco test of Sai and DNA test of Jamuna’s son Moksh were also part of the deal. The tainted PSI had also promised to provide all assistance to Sai during the trial.

Sangani told police that Sai clearly knew that the police would plan for narco test and brain mapping to get proofs in the case. While Sai has been refuting charges of sexual exploitation, police too do not have strong evidences against him. The cops believe that Sai’s narco test will reveal more information and his statement can be used as proof during trial.

The police had also planned to conduct DNA test of Moksh to prove Sai as a ‘characterless person who sexually exploited female sadhaks’. A positive report of the test would further tighten the legal noose around Sai.

“Sangani was actively working with PSI Kumbhani in this matter. Kumbhani had promised to fix his meeting with senior police officials on receiving a certain portion of the assured amount,” said an official.

In a late evening development, the court ordered seven days of police remand for Kumbhani and others. Embarrassed by Friday’s development, Surat police commissioner Rakesh Asthaana on Saturday replaced the official heading the investigation in the case. ACP JA Patel (D Division) was relieved from charge and ACP (E Division) Haresh Dudhat was asked to take over.

More skeletons in Kumbhani’s closet?
Surat police have initiated investigation to find out whether Kumbhani was in touch with other aides of Asaram or. They are also looking into other cases investigated by Kumbhani while he was in crime branch. Top police officials believe that if he could dare to take bribe in a high-profile case he must have reaped monetary benefits in other cases too.
