Gujarat Agriculture Minister, RC Faldu seems exasperated after the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) chairman, Vaghji Boda held the state government responsible for negligence in groundnut gutting incidents. Replying to the allegations, Faldu has said he was not satisfied with the primary investigation by the CID in the incident and asked them to resurrect political nexus in the same.

Boda had alleged in a press conference on Tuesday in Rajkot that the Gujarat government's agencies were involved in irregularities in purchase of groundnuts at MSP from farmers. Faldu countered him by addressing a press conference on Wednesday at his office in Gandhinagar.

Faldu said, "Boda is also a son of the farming family and he should understand what was the role of state government. We are not in picture of selling or purchase of groundnut at all. Boda is a NAFED chairman and it was his responsibility to ensure a fool-proof system. The CID (crime) submitted the primary report of investigation in groundnut gutting case but we are not satisfied and I have directed the police to resurrect political ties in irregularity."

"The Congress is after this entire thing. Boda never raised his voice till the purchase of groundnuts at MSP completed in state but suddenly has been playing victim and alleging state government for irregularities which is not correct," Faldu added.

However, the agriculture minister perplexed when was asked that many senior BJP leaders were in NAFED and other cooperative bodies assigned for purchase of groundnuts from farmers at MSP and why their roles could not be under the clouds of doubt.

The NAFED, at the behest of central government purchased 9.30 lakh MT groundnuts at MSP of Rs. 900 per ton from farmers after the prices of commodity in open market slashed to Rs. 400. The series of incidents of gutting of stock of groundnuts stored in warehouses been gutted in quantity of tons and mixing of sand and pebbles in sacks were reported at many places.
