Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced on Thursday that in the days to come, students in government schools will need to carry only tablets instead of books, as the state government is planning to open 2,500 smart classrooms across the state.
Rupani was speaking after he kick started the three-day Shala Praveshotsav (school enrollment drive) for urban areas in Surat.
“We have earmarked Rs 2,500 crore towards setting up smart classrooms across state. Students will not need to carry heavy school bags as the entire curriculum will be available online, which they access on their tablets,” the CM said.
Rupani enrolled children in anganwadi, class 1 in primary and class 9 in the secondary sections. He also inaugurated a food processing plant and bio waste to bio energy plant constructed at a cost of Rs 41 crore by Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Surat. The CM also dedicated several public projects to the city.
