After saving their most prized asset for 12 years, security staff of Narendra Modi (former chief minister of Gujarat and now PM-designate), heaved a sigh of relief. During Modi’s farewell on Thursday, the personnel had something to show to the man they had been guarding zealously all these years.
The 240-strong team that protected the CM, his residence, his convoy, vehicles and other important places he frequented, had built a temple inside a vehicle. “We used to pray for your safety here everyday. We prayed to God to give us strength to protect you,” Modi was told by one of the officers on duty when the man was meeting people around him.
“After looking at the temple and hearing about our daily prayers, we found that he was emotionally moved. Although he (Modi) controlled his emotions, we could feel that he felt it deep down. He folded his hands before the god and then left,” said a person present on the spot.
However, as the matter is sensitive, security officials do not want to disclose the location or the type of temple it is. A source said that there is a small temple within the CMO (chief minister’s office) where the security staff used to perform Shastra Puja, whereas another person said that a makeshift Ram temple had been built in the vehicle that accompanied the convoy.
