Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch leader Jignesh Mevani has demanded that BJP's former MP from Junagadh Dinu Solanki should be arrested in connection with the RTI activist Amit Jethava's 2010 murder case within 24 hours or people will come out on streets and launch an agitation demanding justice.

On October 30, the Supreme Court's division bench of justice AK Sikri and justice Ashok Bhusan while cancelling Solanki's bail had ordered, "He shall be taken into custody and remain there during the period of re-examination of eight eye-witnesses. The trial court shall summon 26 witnesses who are to be examined afresh, eight eye- witnesses shall be summoned and examined on a daily basis."

Deceased's father Bhikha's advocate Anand Yagnik stated on Wednesday that though there is SC order to take Solanki into custody immediately, he is still out. "Though in two other cases lodged against him, HC had ordered CID (Crime) probe in February but CID (Crime) is yet to arrest him." The advocate claimed Solanki has political patronage.

Solanki also faces charges of attacking another RTI activist Mahesh Makwana besides leading an armed mob and attacking one Jaitun Salot's house. In support of his allegation, he had also submitted a video CD before the HC. RTI activist Amit Jethava had launched a campaign against illegal mining near Gir sanctuary and had even filed a PIL demanding action before being gunned down in front of the HC in 2010.

'CBI, CID ARE CAGED PARROTS'

  • Dalit leader Mevani alleged that CBI and CID (Crime) both are caged parrots of the BJP. It is the reason that both the agencies are not investigating the case impartially and laying their hands on Solanki.

  • Mahesh Makwana, who was severely injured in the attack by Solanki, alleged that even on Wednesday, Solanki was busy addressing political and community meetings, as if there is no arrest order from the SC.
