A team from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), including its Chief Representative Katsuo Matsumoto, will be meeting farmers affected by the bullet train project in the state. The meeting will take place on December 7 and 8 in Surat. The team will also visit some of the affected landowners/farmers at their farms/residences to understand ground reality.

A meeting will also take place with farmers/landowners of different villages/districts affected by the project, representatives of farmers and even advocate Anandvardhan Yagnik who has been representing the landowners/farmers in court.

The visit is a result of the representation made to JICA on September 18 by those affected by the project. The bullet train project is being implemented with financial and technical assistance provided by the Government of Japan through JICA

The representation had raised serious grievances against the land acquisition process that allegedly violates JICA Guidelines and the Central Land Acquisition Legislation.
