Mega traffic drive in Ahmedabad: Rs 20,000 collected

On the fourth day of the mega traffic drive, the people gave roses to the Ahmedabad Police and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials for their efforts in clearing the roads and making way for commuters.

The drive took place in Sardarnagar, Gomtipur, Nikol, Narol, Isanpur, Shahibuag, Naroda, Maninagar areas of the city. While around 320 notices were issued to shops and complexes for not following the parking rules, around 58 vehicles of offenders were towed which were parked illegally on road and Rs 20,000 fine was recovered from them for not following rules.

Around 340 policemen were deployed in the 15-km drive, which was conducted in the Sector-2 areas of the city, under the supervision of Ashok Kumar Jadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Sector-2). The drives had 3 DCP-level officers, 16 Police inspector-level officers and other policemen.

"We have seen a change in the public and there is awareness regarding parking is also creating among them as well," Yadav said.

"The number of notices and fines also reduced, as many of them started following the rules and people have even started self-demolishing the encroachment."
