A Gurgaon-based gang that specialises in leaking exam papers had allegedly got in touch with the accused in the Lok Rakshak Dal (LRD) recruitment paper leak case. This, cops believe, is how the four accused got hold of the paper. Gandhinagar police on Tuesday arrested four more people in connection with the case.

The four have been identified as Pritesh Patel of Bayad, Narendra Chaudhary of Mehsana, Ajaysinh Parmar of Banaskantha and Uttam Singh Bhati of Vadgam.

Police sources said the four, along with other candidates, had accompanied the main accused Yashpalsinh Solanki to Delhi. Solanki, a temporary employee working in the sanitation department of Vadodara Municipal Corporation, is believed to be the main conspirator in the case.

Apart from Solanki, the cops arrested Gandhinagar PSI PV Patel, Manhar Patel of Bayad, Mukesh Chaudhary of Banaskantha, and Rupal Sharma of Gandhinagar.

Patel and Chaudhary were members of the BJP's local unit. After their arrest on Monday, the court granted the police 10 days remand of the four accused.

Police said that on November 29, Yashpal and the four others who were detained on Tuesday along with other candidates had gone to Delhi in four vehicles. They first reached Gurgaon on November 30 and met with the gang who used their own vehicles to ferry the candidates to Delhi. When the candidates reached Rajendranagar crossroads on National Highway not 8 they had been asked to switch off their cell phones.

The candidates on reaching Delhi were separated into groups of five each and taken to different places where they were given the question papers. They were asked to solve them and apparently it took the the candidates a long time to solve forcing the gang to comment that candidates from other states were far quicker at solving such papers.

Police said the students had been assured that they would have to pay only after they appeared for the exams and assured themselves that the questions in the paper were the same as those in the leaked paper. Police said while some of the candidates returned in the car Yashpal flew from Delhi while three other candidates flew from Jaipur to reach Gujarat.

One of the candidates in the car was dropped at Palanpur and Mehsana. Police also said that Bhati had not gone to Delhi and had accessed the paper from other candidates. Meanwhile, Gujarat government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the candidate who had died in a road accident while returning from the centre where he had gone to appear for the LRD exams. The exams had been cancelled following the leak.
