After two years of restoration work, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad on Monday inaugurated its iconic Vikram Sarabhai Library. While the library is a landmark structure that leaves visitors awestruck, it was important for the institute to restore the aged Louis Kahn Plaza buildings which have withstood the Gujarat earthquake.

Speaking about the same, professor Errol D'Souza, Director, IIMA said, "The library is at the epicentre of our campus and is not just a location for preserving books but is intended to provide a workshop for readers and for conversations that expand our horizons. The architecture of the library expands on the theme of the interplay between light and darkness and is a representation of how academics is the emergence from darkness into the light."

Professor H Anil Kumar, Head Librarian said, "Visitors at IIMA campus will no longer be required to walk up to the library. With help from TCS, we now have a virtual reality app that allows users to take a virtual tour floor wise, flip through the books and reserve the books that they wish to take. For visually impaired users, we have a scanner that would scan pages of a book and convert into an audio clip. Our effort is an attempt to give the library a technology upgradation."
