In a curious turn of events, the newly appointed in-charge vice-chancellor at Gujarat University (GU) Dr Mukul Shah has stopped the admission process for five integrated courses started after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Vibrant Gujarat Summit.

The admission process in the courses have been stopped keeping students’ interest in mind, said Shah. Former V-C Dr Adesh Pal had signed an MoU with private education trusts to start five integrated courses and allowing them to function on the university campus.

Shah said that if a course has to be outsourced, the decision must be approved by syndicate and senate members of the varsity.

“Such decisions cannot be taken by the V-C under the special powers assigned to him (as taken by Pal). So, a meeting will be held to consult the syndicate and senate members. Meanwhile, academic sessions will continue for students who have been given admission in the integrated courses,” said Dr Shah. The MoU was signed for courses like integrated MBA, business management, computer science among others.

Shah on Monday held a meeting with heads of all departments and principals of five science colleges.

Additional 600 students who participated in the third round of admission for Bachelor of Science course were given admission in the seven science colleges in city.

In another decision, Shah also ordered to continue admission in GU bhavans which was stopped for various reasons.
