GujCET to take place on Apr 23, says GSEB

The GujCET will be based on the syllabus of Class 12 Science subject. While Chemistry and Physics paper would be combined, remaining two Biology and Mathematics will be separate

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board has announced the date for Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GujCET) which will be conducted on April 23. As per the government's notification, the entrance examination for degree engineering and degree and diploma pharmacy courses for non-medical (group A), Group B (medical) and both (group AB) streams will be conducted by GSHSEB for the academic session 2018-19 on April 23 from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm.

The GujCET will be based on the syllabus of Class 12 Science subject. While Chemistry and Physics paper would be combined, remaining two Biology and Mathematics will be separate. For Chemistry and Physics, 40 question for each subject making it a total of 80 questions and 80 marks will be asked and students will be given 120 minutes. OMR will be of 80 responses.

Whereas for Biology and Mathematics, 40 questions of 40 marks for each subject will be asked and 60 minutes for one subject will be given to students. OMR for these subjects will be of 40 responses each.

The examination will be conducted in Gujarati, Hindi and English medium for which online applications are to be submitted, the date of which will be declared later. The state government had replaced the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE), introduced in June 2013 with previously held GujCET from the academic year 2017 for students through a notification issued in 2016.

ADMISSION PATH

  • JEE was made compulsory as a common entrance test in these courses since 2013. 
     
  • Within four years the government withdrew it and with the GR, the provision of JEE being mandatory was abolished and instead of it, GujCET is to be conducted. 
     
  • Students will be admitted in engineering and pharmacy courses on merit list with 60 per cent weightage given to marks scored in four semesters and 40%  to CET percentile.
