Gujarat University, AMC to offer Heritage courses

Taking a cue from Ahmedabad being accorded the status of a heritage city last year, Gujarat University in association with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) gears up to start seven new courses on heritage.

The announcement of the same was made on February 26 when the city completed completing 607 years of its existence.

Confirming the same, Dr Himanshu Pandya, Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat University said, "Since the city has been declared as a heritage city, we felt a need to equip people with different skills. Now we would need city guides who give authentic information about the city, interpreters, translators, accumulation of literature, online medium, etc. If people from Kerala visit Ahmedabad, they would need literature in their own language so our school of languages will also have a huge scope. There will also be a course on website development."

Centre for Heritage Management at Ahmedabad University said, "At present, awareness about heritage is nil as students are not sensitised enough. If more and more colleges start courses on heritage, it will create a platform to share knowledge and discuss ideas."
