Despite the chaos and rumours on Monday, the candidature of former union minister and Congress leader Naran Rathwa for Rajya Sabha polls in Gujarat was accepted on Tuesday. Returning officer AK Karova for four seats also accepted the papers of three BJP candidates and another Congress nominee.

Suspense shrouded over the entire incident till 6 pm when the returning officer gave his mandate of accepting Rathwa's form. Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil said BJP leaders present during the scrutiny played the tactics but failed to victimise Rathwa.

Gohil said, "This incident is a slap on BJP, the party which is famous for playing dirty sport in Rajya Sabha polls. They stretched the matter on Rathwa's forms with frivolous and baseless arguments, and we also had to spoil our time countering them."

Gohil said he was happy that both of their candidates' forms were accepted and said they will win easily. "There was no issue against Rathwa but they kept the rumour market abuzz. Letter from BJP's office was forged as Lok Sabha speaker's letter and they presented many issues, but Satyamev Jayate. Truth has conquered over myths."

The BJP also countered Congress' allegations and said that entire situation rose because they were not assured. Gujarat BJP chief said, "Why they did not ask the independent candidate Valera to file as dummy candidate of Congress? Because they were not confident over eligibility of Rathwa. Internal rift in Gujarat Congress is the reason because some leader who wanted to contest could not get the mandate. In fact, they started objecting nomination forms of all our candidates including dummy but failed to prove their objections. This is why we also raised objections."

The BJP also presented papers of letter of secretary general of Lok Sabha and speaker of the house before the returning officer and argued that Rathawa forged the no due certificate that he attached with the nomination form.

The BJP has decided to challenge the nomination of Rathwa before the election commission, whereas the Congress is also confident and said that there is no challenge against Rathwa's nomination after the returning officer accepted his form.
