The travails of a class 10 student, navigating the bureaucracy as he waits for a kidney transplant, the story on bone collectors of Kutch, and the state of healthcare and private hospitals in Gujarat were among the stories for which journalists were awarded by the Gujarat Media Club this year.

The award for the Best Digital Story in Audio-Visual was given to Mehul Zala of ApnaGujarat.com, while Shayar Rawal from Nav Gujarat Samay won the award for the best story in Print, Gujarati.

An independent writer living in Naliya, Azera Parveen Rahman, won the award for best story in print, English, for her story on a unique bone collector of Kutch.

Amit Patel of Chhota Udepur from Sandesh News won the award for Best story in electronic media for his coverage on Sardar Sarovar Dam oustees, and their struggle for drinking water facilities.

The award was given by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. The award was sponsored by ONGC, Ahmedabad Asset.

The award for Lifetime Contribution to Journalism Award was conferred on veteran 85-year-old journalist Mahesh Thaker, who could not attend the function due to ill health.

The winners were given a citation and prize money of Rs 25,000 each (including Rs 10,000 worth of life membership for non-members).
