Gujarat elections 2017: 132 more nominations filed

According officials, 1,280 candidates are left in the fray for the first phase of polling after scrutiny of nomination forms on Thursday

132 more nominations were filed on Thursday for the second phase of elections on December 14. Officials said that a total of 160 candidature forms have been filed so far.

Minister and candidate from Dholka, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Jagdish Panchal (Nikol), Bhushan Bhatt (Jamalpur-Khadia), and Ramsinh Parmar (Thasra) were among the key BJP candidates who filed their nominations.

The Congress is yet to officially declare its list for the second phase, but a number of its MLAs filed their nominations today. They include Rajendrasinh Chavda (Borsad), Amit Chavda (Anklav), Niranjan Patel (Petlad), Chandrika Baria (Garbada SC), Dhirubhai Bhil (Sankheda ST), Anil Joshiyara (Bhiloda ST), among others.

Many candidates of AAP and other smaller parties also submitted their nominations, and so did a large number of independents.

According officials, 1,280 candidates are left in the fray for the first phase of polling after scrutiny of nomination forms on Thursday. However, the final number will be known on Friday, which is the last day for withdrawing nominations.
