With an aim to tighten its watch over 14 major cities of the state, the Gujarat police have decided to upgrade the state control room to a command and control room at the Director General of Police (DGP) office in Gandhinagar. The work is expected to be over by January.

The facility will have a huge screen that will display CCTV camera footages from across the major corners of these cities. The police officers posted here will also have direct access to the live feed displayed on the big monitor. The new system will also enable the cops to issue challans to the traffic offenders and allow them to direct the various city control room in-charges to sweep into action.

The upgraded system is just an initial step to improve policing, a senior cop said, adding that further changes will follow once this decision show results. However, once the new system starts functioning, it will be shifted to a new building where 150 police officers deployed, he said. Currently, around 50 people are working in the project.

"We shall operate from here for now. However, we shall move to a new building once the process begins," said Gaurav Jasani, deputy superintendent of police of State Control room.

We will get live feeds of 14 cities of the state, which has CCTV cameras installed at the major junctions. We are planning to collect such feed from across the state so that we can keep a watch on all places from Gandhinagar itself,” Jasani said.
